Spotless Sun Feb 21 2026

Today, 21 February 2026, the Sun appears to be completely spotless, officially breaking the long streak of 1345 consecutive days with visible sunspots, a period that began after the last spotless day in June 8th  2022.

I first detected the absence of sunspots by checking the solar full-disk image on Helioviewer.org, using the SDO/HMI white-light data timestamped 18:58:55 UTC, which showed a fully spotless photosphere.

Immediately after confirming this, I set up my own equipment to verify it independently. Using a Celestron C90 Maksutov (1250 mm focal length, 90 mm aperture) and a Canon SL3 with proper white-light filtration, I captured the attached image showing the Sun completely devoid of sunspots.

This observation confirms that today marks a new spotless day and the end of the unusually long period of continuous sunspot activity during Solar Cycle 25.

You are welcome to use the image for your daily solar activity updates.

I attach my photo taken at 13:29 UTC in Toluca, Mexico
